My furnace was too big for the basement.

I realized that HVAC technicians screw up just like the rest of us when they brought our new furnace to the house. He had measured and remeasured before choosing the size furnace we needed for the house. He looked at the area where it was to be located and measured that area again. He was sure he had ordered the right furnace for our house, but it wasn’t fitting. My husband was talking to him about what happened with the furnace, but I was biting my lips to keep from laughing out loud. I tapped my husband on the shoulder and told him what happened was they had sent a furnace that wouldn’t fit in the basement, let alone in the furnace room. The HVAC technician looked at me and started laughing. He asked if that meant it was the HVAC company’s fault and not his? I laughed again, and told him that was a nice thought, but he wouldn’t know until he called the HVAC company. He shook his head and pulled out his work phone. Then minutes later, he pointed to me and then his nose. I had hit the nail on the head. They sent the wrong furnace to us, and someone else had received our compact furnace. Unfortunately, the HVAC technician at the other house had already begun the installation process when he figured it out. Now they had to undo his work and exchange furnaces. If only the HVAC technicians had looked at the serial numbers on the furnace and compared it to their work order, they both would have known it was wrong. I’m glad our HVAC technician realized the faux pas.
