I cried when they took my AC unit away.

My husband rolled his eyes and laughed at me last week.

I got misty-eyed when I watched them toss my old air conditioning unit on the back of their truck.

I had a new AC unit in the backyard, and I knew it was going to give us cool air for years to come. We would no longer wake up to humidity so thick you could wear it. We wouldn’t worry about coming home to not having air conditioning. It worried me a bit about what they were going to do with the old air conditioning unit. It had been in our backyard for almost twenty years, and I didn’t want it to be discarded like an old scrub rag. I hoped it would be refurbished and sold, but I couldn’t be sure of that. We kept the outer part of the air conditioning unit in good shape, but there was nothing we could about the mechanical part of it. Through the years, it kept us cool and comfortable, but not so much in the last three years. It was costing more to keep the air conditioner running than it would to have a new one installed. It was an easy decision to make, but when I saw them toss it on the truck like it was trash, I felt sad. My husband put his arm around my shoulders and walked me into the house. As soon as we walked in, I could feel the cooling relief of the new air conditioning unit. There was no humidity, and it ran so quietly I forgot it was running.
