The air conditioning unit was my dog’s favorite outdoor item.

My dog loves to be outside. He is sitting by the door when we wake up in the morning, and he won’t come in until it gets dark. I love my dog, but I hate he has taken a liking to our air conditioning unit. He lays in the shade by the air conditioning unit, and it has become his personal outdoor restroom. I have tried spraying around the AC unit. I was hoping the odor would make his stay away, but it doesn’t work. I tried spraying him with the hose to let him know he wasn’t supposed to be that close to the air conditioning unit. That doesn’t work. He has been yelled at, and I tied up away from the AC unit. He breaks free of the chain and heads over to the AC unit. Last week, we put an invisible fence around the AC unit, hoping that would keep him away. We watched him get zapped a couple times and thought that was the end of his need for the AC unit. My son yelped, and we watched the dog take a running leap through the invisible fence. The dog yelped, but then he settled down by the AC unit and went to sleep. Short of building a fenced in area where the dog can run freely, we don’t know what else to do. We’ve done everything the vet has suggested, but nothing works. My suggestion was to move the air conditioning unit, and my husband just gave me a dirty look. He suggested we tell our daughter to come take her dog home with her. It was her dog when she lived at home, and she should have it living with her.
