I was really lucky to get all the great breaks that have come my way.
And I think that makes it a lot easier to deal with the fact that I’m really slowing down now. I mean, it’s inevitable as we all age. But I’m lucky that I didn’t just sit around in the air conditioning once I retired. Actually, I left the zone controlled HVAC of the office about 8 years early after accepting a buyout. It wasn’t easy to leave given how hard I had worked to get to that corner office with its own thermostat. But the company was trying to cut salaries to be attractive to buyers and I understood that. Plus, I was getting like 8 extra years of retirement and losing less than 5 percent of my retirement package had I kept working. My wife and I hit the ground running once we moved south to start this chapter of our lives. That meant golf, tennis, hiking, biking, swimming and just any other outdoor thing we could get into. And it’s been that way now for about twenty years. However, I’m having a ductless heat pump installed in our sunroom before spring gets here. I’m definitely slowing down so will be spending more time inside the quality heating provided by the ductless heat pump going forward. My body just isn’t as resilient as it once was so it’s time to sort of ease up. But I still really like the feeling of being outside so the air conditioning in the sunroom will really help me get more accustomed to how life is going to be the rest of the way.
