I’m no kind of saint or martyr, but I do like to help folks whenever I can.I’ve realized that I don’t have too many skills on this Earth, but I am very good with my hands. I know how to fix something when it breaks. I can Tinker along with the best of them. If you give me a broken appliance and a few days, I can generally get the item in working order again. That being said, I tried to use my mechanical skills in order to help other people whenever it’s possible. Recently I was thrilled to be able to assist my neighbor when his heating system broke down in the middle of a terrible storm. Leading up to Christmas we had incredibly cold weather that many heating systems were not capable of contending with. In this area we usually have mild Winters and a generally warm climate, so there isn’t much investment in our furnaces and other heating equipment. As such, when there is suddenly a huge demand to use your central heating, cooling, and air quality control system during a blizzard… A lot of furnaces fail. I noticed my neighbor was gathering wood outside and asked him about his heating situation. He told me that his furnace had stopped working the night before. The local heating, cooling, and ventilation company was not operating on the holiday. I decided to go take a look at his heating system and promptly found the problem. I was able to clear out a blockage in the heating system and his thermostat promptly became functional again. I don’t consider myself any sort of Santa Clause, but I am glad to know that my neighbor is safe and comfortable with a working and heating system.
