Thermostat gives me excuse to check on the kids

When you are raising teenagers everyday is a battle.

You never know what’s coming your direction or what to prepare for.

Unfortunately, I have two teenagers in my house and it is exhausting. We’re always looking for ways to declutter our lives and simplify things. Unfortunately, one of the measures that we regularly discuss – installing a smart thermostat – is out of our reach. We’d really like to optimize our central heating and cooling system to reduce our energy bills and place less wear and tear on the central heating and cooling units… But we also need to keep our teenagers safe. Right now, we have a regular dial thermostat that’s located in the living room. We want to keep this rudimentary dial thermostat for one major reason… Keeping an eye on the kids. Currently, when my teenagers are hanging out in the basement I can keep an eye on their shenanigans thanks to the thermostat. Adjusting the indoor air temperature up or down is a perfect excuse to walk into the room and make sure they aren’t getting into any funny business. I can peek around the corner and ensure that everyone’s clothes are on. If we installed a smart thermostat, I would lose this air quality control excuse. I would have a way to turn the indoor air temperature up or down using my phone rather than walking into the living room. As much as we would love to optimize our central heating and cooling system… It’s going to have to wait until the kids move out
