Hvac is important for animals too!

I looked over at the HVAC system of that building and was amazed at its size

When most people think of HVAC they typically think of how nice it is for humans to be able to air condition their home in the summer and heat their homes in the winter. But HVAC does not stop at aiding humans, it also is used to keep animals at a comfortable temperature in zoos. I witnessed this last week when I visited a zoo. I am an HVAC technician so I often look to see what kind of air conditioner and furnace units are being used in the building I’m entering, just out of curiosity. While at the zoo I noticed several of the different buildings had regular sized HVAC systems installed in them. As I walked through the zoo, I approached the polar bears and penguins building. I noticed next to it there was an enormous air conditioning unit sitting outside. It was no doubt used to keep the building cool and air conditioned for the animals inside. As I opened the door a rush of cool air blew above me. The air duct was right above my head and I was so glad the air conditioning was so high because it was very hot outside. I enjoyed the exhibits and the air conditioning for a while but soon began to shiver. I quickly walked out of the building and sat on a bench in the furnace like the heat of the sun. I looked over at the HVAC system of that building and was amazed at its size. It was clear by the sound it was making that the air conditioner was running full blast. I realized that day that HVAC is important for the comfort of both animals and humans and that we need both air conditioners and furnaces in our everyday lives.
