There was a reason I moved south.

I headed home last week so I could help my dad.

He was having some health problems and wanted to have me help out at the HVAC company for a week.

It had been a year since I was home, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to go back during the winter. There was a reason I moved south, and the winter was the reason. I hated the cold, snow, and ice. Coming north, even for a week. during the winter, was going to be a hardship on me. I went home and began working at the HVAC company. I knew I could handle the operation of the business, but I wasn’t sure if I could take over being an HVAC technician if I was needed. I hadn’t worked on a furnace or any other heating system for almost two years.. When an emergency call came in and there were no HVAC technicians available to handle it, I had to do the job. As much as I hated going out in the snow and cold, someone needed to have their furnace repaired so no one would freeze to death. When I got to the house, I was shivering harder than the owner of the furnace. She took pity on me and gave me a sweater that belonged to her husband. She asked where my father was, and I told her he was sick. She chuckled and asked if I was the son who moved south to get away from the winter. I told her I was, but I was still an HVAC technician. I just didn’t work on furnaces very often anymore.
