A/C can’t cold down drafty shed

I’m kind of handy with fixing things so I didn’t mind taking a look at my friend’s window air conditioning unit.

She has this little home away from home out where she keeps her horses.

It’s a shed converted into a little house. That’s because her horses live over an hour away from where she lives. So she likes to go up on a weekend and camp out in the little house and spend time riding the horses. The little shed has a window air conditioning unit and a faux fireplace. My friend complains because, no matter what, the air conditioner does not get her little house very cold. I promise to come up for the weekend and have some fun and see if I could figure out what was wrong with the air conditioning unit. Almost as soon as I walked into the little house, I could tell that the problem was not with the air conditioner. The air conditioner was working fine. If you stood about 10 feet in front of the air conditioner, you were met with a nice cool blast of air. However, much further than 10 feet, and it started getting very warm. That’s because the little shed is very drafty and it has a tin roof. There is no way that an air conditioner can cool down a building that’s not airtight. I told my friend this but I’m not sure she was convinced. She still thinks there’s something wrong with the window air conditioning unit. I recommended that we work on sealing up the walls to make the shed more airtight. A little bit of insulation in the roof might help as well.
