I’ll never stay in a rustic cabin again

I can’t stop thinking about what was going on almost exactly one year ago.

My life has completely changed from the circumstances around that time.

It feels like I have gone through several personal revolutions since the end of last year. It’s hard to imagine that everything was so different not so long ago. For instance, one year ago I was dating a total loser who I knew through my work. We were head over heels, somehow. Right around this time we decided to rent a cabin together out in the mountains. It seems like it would be a fun, relaxing, romantic thing to do. Instead, it was a nice cold experience in trying to survive. When we arrived at the cabin we were surprised to find that there was no central heating whatsoever. The rustic rental was equipped with an old school stove for heat. You had to continually feed the fire in order to provide any heat for the entire place. It was not a very small cabin, so this method of heating and cooling was rather ineffective. Every morning when we woke up it was brutally cold and it took several hours to increase the air temperature appropriately. If we didn’t keep an eye on the fire at all times it was likely to die down and leave us frozen again. Throughout all of this, the pipes froze in the house. We had no running water on top of our lack of modern Heat. Then, we lost our internet service almost immediately. With no cell service, no internet, no water, and no heat… The entire excursion turned into a trial in survival, rather than relaxation. Thank god my life has changed.
