Trouble beyond a buzz and sting: When the bees became our housemates and took over our HVAC unit

Living within a property that has a small garden, flowers, and trees around it was a dream come true.

What I didn’t anticipate was that the bees buzzing around would eventually move into my house until I started seeing more than one in the house with all the windows and doors closed.

It wasn’t until my husband observed them buzzing near the vents of our HVAC unit, that we understood that they’d found residence in our ductwork. I panicked wondering how we were going to get rid of them and who to call for that. We decided to try the HVAC company and called their home services for help after we read that they could damage the system and incur an Ac repair on us. The HVAC professional came around, and while they checked out how much of the air conditioning system was now a beehive, I learned that they move in because they are escaping the heat of summer. The HVAC technician mentioned that it was common and they would have to call a bee handler to remove them before cleaning the air duct of any dirt and wax left by the bees. We were keen on getting the bees removed without harming them or anyone and the handler managed to move them to a beehive safely but it was hectic. After they were out, the HVAC maintenance experts cleaned out the air conditioner vents of anything that would mess with indoor air quality. They also sealed the ducts to ensure that the bees stayed off because we were not planning to cut the trees or the flowers in our compound. Though I’m disappointed that there was no honey in the Ac filter, at least the bees didn’t damage the equipment’s capacity to help with indoor comfort.
