My father used to swear at the boiler.

My wife Helen is constantly telling me I have a potty mouth and I should watch what I say around the kids.

The only time I really curse is when I am working on my air conditioning or water boiler.

I am actually careful when I am working on other people’s Heating, Ventilation and A/C systems. I constantly tell Helen it is my father’s fault that I swear at the water boiler. Every time Dad was working on the boiler, she swore. I don’t know if it was because Dad was hitting her knuckles, pounding her fingers, or she just didn’t love working on the water boiler. Whatever the reason for her swearing, the only time I heard it was when Dad was working on our Heating, Ventilation and A/C equipment. I remember Dad being admonished over the cursing and asked what her customers thought of her mouth. Dad told her she was a professional Heating, Ventilation and A/C specialist. Dad never showed anger or cursed when she was working on their Heating, Ventilation and A/C equipment. Dad told her that after working eight, ten, or even twelve hours on other people’s Heating, Ventilation and A/C equipment, then coming to the household to labor on ours was just aggravating. Dad would supply him a big hug and ask to just watch her mouth around the kids. Dad’s humor was off the charts and she told her she would watch her mouth if it was possible, although she wouldn’t be seeing anything else. Dad would playfully slap him, roll her eyes, and walk away, which made him laugh. My wife Helen is like my mom, and she has the same responses when I swear at our water boiler and air conditioning unit.
