I still remember the enormous red horsehair sofa my Grandma used to sleep on. She preferred the red sofa because she could recline, but still be sitting up. She had CHF which made it so difficult for Grandma to breathe when she was lying on her back. I remembered snuggling on the sofa with her, when I was still a little girl. I used to know that so long as I was near to her, she would always be there for me, although I was wrong, grandma passed away when I was 12, but she told my Grandpa I had to have the sofa. He always said he was going to burn the sofa when she died, but it came to me. When I got older, I took the horsehair sofa out of a storage unit. I remembered why she always had a heavy counterpane over the sofa. It was so scratchy plus made my skin red. I knew the horsehair sofa needed reupholstering. I contacted the local reupholstering shop plus asked if they would do this job for me. He told me the sofa was over 100 years old, plus it was in such beautiful shape. He asked if I was sure I wanted to have the sofa reupholstered. He said most people put thick blankets over them to make them more comfortable. I looked at the wood on the trim of the sofa plus knew it was in perfect shape. I took the horsehair sofa back home, put a thick quilt over it to product me from the upholstery, plus I still have it 30 years later. I may need to have the sofa reupholstered sometime, but it won’t be soon.
