Converting from oil to gas heating

My husband and I spent nearly eight months touring different houses for sale.

We had a preference for the area where we wanted to live. A highly rated school district for our kids was important. We were searching for a decent-sized property in a safe neighborhood with at least four bedrooms and two bathrooms. I wanted a spacious kitchen and plenty of closets. My husband was hoping for covered parking and an area to use as a workshop. When we finally found the ideal house for sale within our price range, everything was perfect except for the heating system. The house was outfitted with an oil furnace. There was no natural gas line connected to the residence. I wasn’t happy with the tank creating an eyesore and taking up space in the yard. I didn’t like the need to schedule fuel delivery and constantly worried about running out and being left without heat. Unfortunately, there were other projects that took priority over converting to natural gas and replacing the furnace. We repaired the roof, installed new windows and replaced the sump pump. We needed a new dishwasher and refrigerator. It took us several years to finally get around to the heating system. While the conversion to natural gas was fairly involved and expensive, it was definitely worth it. The new furnace is far more energy efficient, clean and convenient. We save money on our monthly utility bills and enjoy superior indoor air quality and comfort. There are no fears of being left without heat. Plus, I’ve been able to gradually update to a gas oven, clothes dryer and water heater.
