My old air conditioner compressor was extremely loud

I don’t have to worry about being freaked out every single time my AC turns on to cool the air in my house

I’ve always been sensitive to loud noises. And I think it started when I was really young during a very decisive moment in my life. My grandfather was always a loud and raucous man and he made no mistake in showing it to his grandchildren. He used to light off homemade sticks of dynamite in the backyard just to scare us at a young age. One such time caused me to almost lose my arm because the homemade bomb blew up faster than it was supposed to right as I was about to walk towards it. I found out later on that he had mistaken how long the fuse was supposed to be and inadvertently lit it off faster than he was supposed to. But after that, my mother didn’t really want my siblings and I to be around my grandfather. Regardless, the damage was already done. It developed a huge built-in fear response to loud noises issues ever since. My old air conditioner for instance had a really loud air compressor. It was fairly aged at that point and always made alone grinding noise when it would turn on. Typically the noise would start to subside as the AC had been running for a few minutes, but it was usually present right after the cycle would begin. Thankfully my new air conditioner is not nearly as long as the old one. I don’t have to worry about being freaked out every single time my AC turns on to cool the air in my house. I’m also thankful that the furnace is fairly silent as well. I just don’t like these loud noises especially if they’re coming from my heating and cooling system.
