When I was growing up, we didn’t have all that much contact with our neighbors.
That sort of just came with living inside a large apartment building in a big city. We new the super who took care of things like the heating and cooling issues. But other than that, we didn’t really connect with our neighbors. That all changed after college when I took my first job. The headquarters for my company is in a small rural area. Moving to this little town was a culture shock at first. I felt completely out of my element. But I found a nice house with new HVAC equipment for a fraction of what it would have been in the city. But I was amazed that in my neighborhood, all the neighbors sort of looked out for one another. That was new to me but it felt really good and natural. So it wasn’t all that surprising when one of our elderly neighbors needed a hand and our community, along with the HVAC company, came to her aid. This lady was trying to get through a summer down here without air conditioning because she didn’t have enough money to replace the heat pump that had died. Those in my community rallied around her and raised enough money to get her that new residential HVAC. And our HVAC company sold us that HVAC equipment at cost and did the installation for free. It really is wonderful to be a part of the community. And knowing that sweet lady didn’t have to suffer through the heat of summer without air conditioning felt even better.
