Mom used to have temperature preferences like dad.
They’d never run the car Heating, Ventilation, & A/C system, just use the windows for a bit of breeze.
When the temperatures dropped, mom and dad had the fireplace turned on at the same time. In the summertime, they never turned on the AC. Mom and dad even got by simply with a box fan in their bedroom on hotter afternoons. But, now mom is going through menopause. It’s taking time and she’s always battling warm flashes. Dad has noticed mom doesn’t sleep as well, exercises harder and changes her clothing more often. She also requires AC for the first time. Mom no longer agrees with dad about temperature settings. When they get into the truck to go to the city, the AC comes on. Mom can’t get by with fresh air anymore. When winter comes, she doesn’t like turning the fireplace on. When she gets hot flashes, mom sweats and doesn’t want the furnace making it worse. She now owns a ductless mini split in one of the guest rooms. Dad believes mom sleeps with A/C blasting on her every night. She says she sleeps in the nude, A/C blowing on her and still sweats all night long. Dad sympathizes with mom. When I visit mom and dad in the summertime, I need to be prepared to be a little colder. I always make sure to pack some warmer clothes.
