My mother used to have temperature preferences like myself.
Her and I would never run the car HVAC system, just use the windows for a bit of breeze.
In the wintertime we both wanted the fireplace turned on at the same time. In the summer she never bothered with a cooling system. She got by simply with a box fan in her bedroom on hotter days. Well now my mother is going through menopause. It has lasted much longer than normal and she is constantly battling hot flashes. I have noticed my mother doesn’t sleep as well, exercises harder and changes her clothing more often. Another big change is that my mother requires air conditioning for the first time. She is no longer like me with temperature. When I hop into the car to go to the mall with her, the air conditioning comes on. She can’t get by with fresh air anymore. During the wintertime she doesn’t like to turn the fireplace on. When she gets a hot flash she sweats and doesn’t want the heater making it worse. My mother now owns a ductless mini split in her bedroom. I know she sleeps with AC blasting on her every night. My mother says she sleeps in her underwear, AC blowing on her and sweats all night long. I feel so bad for her. I know when I visit her in the summertime I need to be prepared to be a little colder. I always dress her hair warm so that she can be comfortable with the colder thermostat setting.
