As our mom got older, her circulation became worse.
- She used to be the one demanding for the home to be colder.
In the wintertime we hardly ran out of heating. We walked inside our lake home in long pants and sweatshirts. In the summertime, mom loved blasting the A/C, turning the house into a frozen tundra. We remember coming in from the pool and trying to run by the AC. We would slip all over our mother’s bedroom brick in a big hurry to get dry and warmer. The inside of the lake home during the snow felt no different from outside during wintertime. Now that our mom is older, she doesn’t even allow the cooling system to run. Mom is focused solely on heating now. During the wintertime we now dress in shorts and tank tops! When our mother hosts a family thanksgiving or Christmas, we’re prepared to sweat. We try to sneak a window open and frequently step outside in the snow to cool down. It’s so darn sizzling in there now. What is particularly awful is that during the summer time it’s not unusual for our mom to turn on the heating system. We tried chaining the fireplace closed to deter her. Mom will spend a long time messing with it and then get the heating system to turn on. We’ve been inside the lake home when it was 90 degrees. We felt like we were going to pass out while our mom seemed quite content. Weird how things change with age.
