A week with the inlaws

The joys of being a light sleeper I suppose

For the past five days my wife and I have been up north spending time with her mother and father. We have been married for nearly seven years up till this point, and for some reason I can’t help but feel that there is still an awkward vibe whenever I hang out with them. Don’t get me wrong they are still very kind to me and they do their best to take care of us while we are down there, but nevertheless the awkwardness has remained through the years. I think that a big part of this stems from how uncomfortable in the cold climate up north. Despite living in a part of the country that is always getting hit by snowstorms and freezing temperatures the only heating source that my inlaws have installed in their home is a very old and very loud heated gas furnace. With this heated furnace the air quality in the home tends to feel pretty stuffy and dry once it has been running for a few hours which always leaves me with a dry and irritated nose. On top of not feeling well during the visit I am also not able to sleep more than an hour or two without being woken up to the banging or screeching sound coming from the old heated furnace. The joys of being a light sleeper I suppose. If I had to make a guess I would say that my in-laws think that I am a wimp who should be able to adjust to the cold weather climate for at least a week. They are free to have this thought, but nothing will change the fact that life up north is just not for me.
