Antique house requires special A/C

A ductless mini split system requires a lot less space than a traditional central air conditioner

I have never worried about cooling this house down. In this area it is not needed. Not more than one or two days a year anyway. When it is warm we just open up the windows, turn on the antique ceiling fan, and let the wind cool down the house. But over the last few summers there has been a change. I don’t know if it is global warming or what but the summers are getting warmer and warmer. Finally I had enough and I decided I wanted an air conditioner. The only problem is that this house is antique. As such, it is protected. We have to be really careful about upgrades. That is especially true if the upgrades are visible. We can’t put an air conditioning unit in the window, for example. We also can’t get ductwork run through the walls. Still, I am not going to go through another summer with no air conditioning. This year I got a portable air conditioning unit. It has a hose that goes to the window but most of the air conditioner is inside of the house. This is rather noisy but it works pretty good. I am glad I got it. But now I am thinking of getting something a little more permanent for next year. Specifically I have been looking at ductless mini split systems. A ductless mini split system requires a lot less space than a traditional central air conditioner. It would not require much damage to the house either. I just need to make sure that is allowed before I schedule the air conditioner install though.
