The heavy rains meant we had to prepare the AC in advance

I’d never lived in the location before, so everything was new to me. My daughter and I had to relocate for my job. Though we were glad to escape the frigid weather, we knew the new location also had its challenges. One of our neighbors came over to bring us some muffins, and we got to talk about different things. She happened to mention it was summer, so I had also to get ready for some unexpected weather. It would rain heavily out of the blues and to someone new in the area. But it was the norm and something we’d come to enjoy when it got too hot outside. True to her word, the following week, there was heavy rain that caused flooding. Lucky for us, our neighbor advised us in advance to get the AC unit ready. She said we had to call an AC mechanic to lift the outdoor HVAC a couple of inches from the ground. This was the best way to prevent the unit from getting affected by floodwaters. She told me of a friend who had to buy a whole new HVAC unit the previous year due to unexpected floods. In addition, it was prudent we cover the HVAC when we saw signs of a storm. This would prevent dust and debris from flying into the unit. Dust and debris were big enemies of the outdoor HVAC since they interfered with the normal airflow into the unit. When we realized there was a storm brewing, we had to cover the system with a tarp to protect it. However, we also had to stay without air conditioning because we could not work the system with a cover.
