Cold Showers

I hope I don’t have to experience a repeat of last Summer when both of us replaced our Heating and A/C system and were without air conditioning just as a heatwave moved in.

It wasn’t too disappointing for the first few afternoons, but it got aged rather suddenly.

I sent the husband and youngsters to Grandma’s house, so they didn’t have to suffer while I stayed house to try to beat the heat. I can handle weather really up to about 85°F but when it hits 90°F, I look for ways to keep cool, then during the heatwave, I wore as little clothing as possible. I used a fan and tried to remain still, I drank lots of liquids and admit that straight water was not my primary means of staying hydrated. Many times, I stood in front of the refrigerator fanning the door to give myself and others a little bit of relief. I even put an ice bin on my head which gave myself and others a fantastic idea! Unluckyly, that plan turned out to be my worst mistake: taking a frosty shower. I found out that while I might stay cool for a few ninths after drenching myself in frosty water, my body’s defense system reacted as if I was stranded naked on an ice floe. It tried to conserve body heat instead of getting rid of it. My best strategy was to practice my hydration methods, fall asleep to pleasant dreams when my new Heating and A/C system would be humming along, circulating its refrigerant through newly cleaned HVAC duct. I even remembered to choice up the cans before my husband returned. I thought I was in for an straight-forward Summer this year but then my mother-in-law paid us a return visit.
