Helping my grandma go back to a dial thermostat

I realized that I had been unintentionally selfish because I was only thinking of my wants and needs at the time and not what she would want best.

When I got a new smart thermostat, I was so happy about it that I wanted to share that excitement with everyone. Including my grandmother, I loved the new smart thermostat so much that I was sure that if she got one that she would love it too. I continued to tell her about it and how they were superior to the old thermostats. I wanted her to get one so she could enjoy hers much in the same way that I was enjoying mine. However, everytime I told her about it she seemed hesitant to go and get a smart thermostat. I always wondered why, seeing as to how great they were. After convincing her, she finally relented and agreed to get a smart thermostat. However, everytime she went to use it she seemed confused, even when I showed her several times she just couldn’t seem to get the hang of this new technology. Then she finally told me that she appreciated the thought that I wanted to share something that worked so well for me with her, but admitted that she didn’t really like it. It was too complicated and she clearly preferred the simpler old technology. She could have learned of course, but there was no reason to expect her to learn something she wasn’t satisfied with. I realized that I had been unintentionally selfish because I was only thinking of my wants and needs at the time and not what she would want best. In my mind, smart thermostats were so great. Why would anybody want an older thermostat? I didn’t stop to consider that my grandma liked and felt more comfortable around older items. They brought her fond memories of the past. I helped her remove the smart thermostat and go back to her dial thermostat.
