Humidity is poor for pianos.

I am a professional pianist & I believe just about everything there is to believe about taking good care of a piano.

One of the first things I tell my students is that they need to keep their piano in a dry locale that is free of humidity.

In my piano room I have a dehumidifier to keep moisture out of it. I also suggest that they try to keep their piano room an even temperature all year round as this helps with keeping the piano in tune. The last thing you want to do is have an a/c in your piano room running on high then when Wintertide comes you crank up the oil furnace & get the room honestly warm. These decreasing hot & cold temperatures can cause good destruction to your piano. What I suggest to my students who are serious about keeping their piano in good shape is that they invest in a smart thermostat. A smart thermostat enables you to keep your piano room a consistent temperature no matter where you are in the world. My smart thermostat has saved my piano many times, for instance, when I went on vacation a few years ago I forgot to program my normal thermostat to a steady temperature, luckily I had a newly installed smart thermostat in my piano room so I was able to regulate the temperature from thoUSnds of miles away. In my experience, getting a smart thermostat is worth the cost, & would be a risk not to get a single. These tips, along with getting the smart thermostat, will ensure that your piano stays in tune, & lasts many decades.
