When I moved down here from up north, there was plenty to get accustomed to.
It was a big change given I spent my entire life in the upper reaches of the north.
It’s entirely a different world down here. And really, I care about just about everything I see with just a few exceptions. But a big change for myself and others is blatantly the weather. I spent winters with a gas oil furnace running night and morning in order to keep my beach home warm. This was an extravagant proposition given the size of my home and the cost of the heating utilities where I lived. That situation has basically been turned on its head. There is no more drastic winter. And there is no more gas oil furnace. The people I was with and I have a heat pump. This is blatantly the first time I’ve ever had a heat pump. The people I was with and I didn’t have any sort of central air conditioning where I came from. The summer time just didn’t require it. I guess I had a window air conditioning for the study room one randomly sizzling summer. But otherwise, that was it. The heat pump is so impressive. Its versatility is just amazing. The heat pump is aptly named because it certainly moves heat energy. When the temperature control is on cooling, the heat pump is moving heat energy out of the house. But all you have to do is move the temperature control to heating and the heat pump reverses the process to bring heat energy inside the home. What a remarkable machine. The heating is even and more than enough for the few cold snaps we get while I was in our oh so mild winter. I have to say that I’m deeply impressed with this piece of HVAC technology.
