When I moved down here from up north, there was plenty to get accustomed to.
It was a large change given I spent my entire life in the upper reaches of the north.
It’s definitely a odd world down here. And really, I adore just about everything I see with just a few exceptions. But a large change for myself and others is evidently the weather. I spent winters with a gas gas furnace running evening & afternoon in order to keep my lake house warm. This was an high-priced proposition given the size of my condo & the cost of the heating utilities where I lived. That situation has basically been turned on its head. There is no more severe winter. And there is no more gas gas furnace. The two of us have a heat pump. This is evidently the first time I’ve ever had a heat pump. The two of us didn’t have any sort of central air conditioner where I came from. The Summer just didn’t require it. I suppose I had a window a/c for the bedroom a single randomly tepid summer. But otherwise, that was it. The heat pump is so impressive. Its versatility is just amazing. The heat pump is aptly named because it entirely moves heat energy. When the control unit is on cooling, the heat pump is moving heat energy out of the house. But all you have to do is transport the control unit to heating & the heat pump reverses the process to bring heat energy inside the home. What a remarkable machine. The heating is even & more than enough for the few frigid snaps the two of us get during our oh so mild winter. I have to say that I’m deeply impressed with this piece of Heating & Air Conditioning technology.
