Are smart thermostats ideal for use in commercial space?

A smart thermostat saves you energy by controlling your heating and cooling.

Unlike mechanical thermostats, it adjusts itself to optimize the energy use in your commercial space.

However, smart thermostats are optimized for home use. While it is excellent for controlling your household’s heating and cooling, the same features may not work well when incorporated into your commercial space. A smart thermostat that provides undisputed automation and convenience can significantly fall short on functionality when installed in your business environment. When you install it in your commercial building, you will have to install several smart thermostats to cover your entire building. This means they will be time-consuming to manage from your smartphone one at a time. Incorporating multiple smart thermostats will create a challenge in managing them all separately. The software to control these thermostats is designed for 1 or 2 thermostats. You’ll need advanced software that enables you to apply overrides or schedules to multiple thermostats simultaneously with ten or more. You will need to be able to lock your thermostats flexibly. The feature that allows pin code to be set in smart thermostats prevents other people from adjusting the temperature and works best at home. Any number of events could arise in commercial spaces, from the development team staying in late to an inventory count overnight. When changes in schedules happen, you may want the occupants to access your device to change the thermostat setting. This person should be able to alter your thermostat schedule without contacting you at home to request a pin code. Your smart thermostat will also have to be compatible with your commercial space HVAC system.
