Why I chose pleated air filters instead of washable filters

Selecting your HVAC air filter isn’t a straightforward process.

You have to consider a few factors before choosing a desirable filter.

For instance, you have to determine the air filter’s lifespan, quality of material, maintenance procedure, in case of reusable filters, and ability to filter out dirt. You also have to consider an air filter’s size concerning your HVAC system. The wrong size filter will not fit into your HVAC system. If it is small, it will allow dust particles and debris to leak into your home, contaminating breathable air. Fortunately, there are air filter ratings that guide users on how to purchase the ideal air filter for a residential HVAC system. If you do not understand these rating systems, you should consult your HVAC technician for help. When I was purchasing new filters for my HVAC system, I was faced with a dilemma. My wife was of the opinion that I should buy washable filters because they are economical and filter out most dirt particles. However, I was a bit reserved and wanted to try out a more affordable option. I called my HVAC technician, who advised me to buy a UV or HEPA filter. According to the HVAC professional, these two air filter types kill germs and airborne disease-causing organisms. Essentially, the UV filters emit UV rays that disinfect conditioned air. On asking about the price, I wasn’t comfortable paying the high amount demanded by the HVAC supplier. I was left with two options, to buy the washable filters or continue using pleated air filters. I went for the pleated filters.
