Dehumidifier for bug control

I know that bugs like warm, humid areas.

  • When I lived in the south we knew to run the air conditioner most of the year in order to keep the bugs away.

After all, air conditioners remove most of the humidity from the air. Plus, they cool the house down and make it uncomfortable for bugs. However, since moving north, running the air conditioner nonstop simply is not possible. It is cold here most of the year so we run the heater. The heater also removes humidity from the air. Besides, it is so cold during the winter that there really is not much of a bug problem in winter. However, during the summer months the bugs do come out. However, it is simply not warm enough to use the air conditioner very much. I usually just open a window and run the ceiling fan if it gets a little warm for me. It is warm enough for the bugs in the summer though. That is why I decided to get a dehumidifier installed in my house. No, I am not talking about one of those disposable dehumidifiers you can buy and put in your closet. Although, the concept is the same. A whole home dehumidifier works to collect all of the humidity throughout the entire house. This makes it dry and uncomfortable for bugs but not uncomfortable for people. Since getting the dehumidifier I have noticed a lot less bugs in the house. This is definitely a good thing. My goal is that I stay comfortable and the bugs stay uncomfortable year round.
