The smell is stuck in the house

Last summer, my boyfriend and his buddies spent the afternoon on a fishing charter.

They went out on a boat and caught a cooler-full of fresh sea bass.

The captain of the boat handled all of the processing of the fish so that the two of us ended up with sealed containers that were ready to cook. I prepared a portion of the fish on the BBQ, and it was legitimately good. It required little seasoning and was a very good meal. I froze the rest of the fish and forgot about it until the winter time. I thought it would be nice to surprise my hubby with a fish lunch. Because of the chilly and snow, I baked the fish on the stove. The smell was awful. The entire home reeked of fish. It was so bad that none of us could sit to even eat the fish. With cold temperatures in the negative digits, I could not open the windows to air out the house. The smell got into the air ducts and spread to every single room. I assumed it would dissipate within a few afternoons, however it seemed to only get worse. I cleaned, washed, lit fragrant candles and sprayed room desmellizer, but nothing helped. I finally called an HVAC supplier for assistance. He told me that the buildup of dust and other contaminants in the ductwork had absorbed the smell. He suggested duct cleaning and the installation of an air cleaner. The duct cleaning process unattached the accumulation of dirt that was otherwise restricting airflow through the system. This greatly improved the efficiency and capacity of the heater system. The media air cleaner works to trap airborne allergens, removes bacteria and eliminate smells. It keeps the home much fresher and ensures healthier indoor air levels. Despite all of these precautions, I don’t want to eat fish again.
