Riding my bike for a workout

After growing up and raising our family in the northern area of the country, my husband and I were ready to move south.

It has been a big transition and improvement for us.

We were used to handling the excessive snow, rain and cold temperatures for the majority of the year. With temperatures regularly below freezing or even dropping into the negative digits, we were often kept indoors. I was accustomed to completing my workouts inside the house. Now that my local weather is usually sunny and warm, I can exercise outside almost every morning, all year round. I just love it. Feeling sunon my skin and breathing fresh air is great motivation. I accomplish much more productive and rewarding workouts. I bought a bicycle right after we moved. I outfitted it with a basket and holder for my phone and water bottle. I use a cordless speaker strapped to the handlebars that lets me listen to music while I ride. There is a bike bath located right near my new house. The path is paved and doesn’t permit motorized vehicles. It stretches for over seventy miles in either direction. It cuts through the woods and the scenery is just lovely. I enjoy every minute of my biking workouts. Most often, I ride my bike to a nearby athletic field. I can ride there in twenty minutes. I then devote around 45 minutes to exercising at the field. I perform lunges, squats, mountain climbers and abdominal crunches. I use the sidewalk to run sprints. I unroll a towel so I can sit or lay down and thoroughly stretch my muscles. I then ride my bike home. The workout lasts around an hour and a half. I can elevate the intensity of the workout by switching to a higher gear or pedaling faster. It’s a great exercise program and puts me in a happy mood.
