This is like a mantra with her.
I have to agree though. Letting the little stuff go makes life so much better. And like the saying goes, it’s all little stuff really. Still, I tend to get pretty worked up and passionate about some things. So, I hear a lot of the let it go mantra. Well one of the things that I get pretty amped up about is the cost of heating and cooling. I’m all for having a comfortable house to live in but I’m not ready to spend what amounts to a car payment for heating and cooling. Really, the big issue when it comes to the utility costs is the HVAC cooling. Our winters aren’t all that tough. The heat pump does a great job keeping us warm but it really doesn’t get much of a workout in the winter. The summer is a whole different story. I spend a lot of time trying to keep the thermostat at a consistent setting to offset the cost of HVAC cooling. And I get really annoyed when, after all my efforts, I get a bill that is way to high. My wife and kids just don’t see my point. So, I did let it go. I let it go in the sense that I had the HVAC company come out to install a smart thermostat. Now, I don’t have to watch the thermostat setting like a hawk. The smart thermostat does it for me and does it far more efficiently than I ever could. Nice thing is, I have the manual override code so the smart thermostat doesn’t get messed with. And I have saved nearly 20 percent in HVAC cooling over the first summer of using the smart thermostat.
