I had to get a new hotel room at 2am when the air conditioner stopped working

My wife and I have been planning a trip for almost a year now.

Since we had to take a short honeymoon during COVID, our hope was to take a longer trip the following year once some of the restrictions and lockdowns had been lifted.

Now that we’re both vaccinated and ready to get out of the house, we are ready to take our long vacation. However, some of the stops had to be planned hastily because I was limited on when I could get time off from my job. Since we didn’t get a chance to select hotel reservations ahead of time, I figured we could find hotel rooms in every city that we stop in along the way. Surely it wouldn’t be too difficult to just choose a random hotel at every stop, but I should have known better. It’s frustrating when you have to leave a hotel at 12am to find another because all of their available rooms smell like vomit and mold. Maybe some people can sleep in those kinds of conditions, but I can’t. When we had to stop in a state in the southwest, we ended up in this hotel with an indoor pool. I thought that would surely be the sign of a good hotel, but it wasn’t. My wife and I had to ask for a new room at 2am when the air conditioner inside stopped working. We woke up sweating a few minutes later. I wish this was an isolated incident, but it isn’t. The number one problem with hotel rooms in my experience is the low standard for air conditioners. Some of them won’t even get the room colder than 75 degrees. This might be okay for some people, but I need a colder room to sleep comfortably.
