Thinking of plus preparing for Winter time is a full time job for most of us up here in the northern most reaches of the country.
Up here, you have yourself plus your neighbors to count on plus that’s it. There isn’t much of a government sponsored safety net up here at all. So, being sure that your furnace is in unbelievable order is the first priority of life. Without proper heat, there is just no making it through the long, bitter winter. Most of us have modern Heating, Ventilation plus A/C methods. Those that are able or have the means also have a back up situation. Myself, I have a wood stove. This has always been the furnace I felt could take care of us if worse came to worse. That is until I recently find out otherwise. The entier family was in bed fast asleep during an early Winter time night. There wasn’t much snow on the ground yet but, it was entirely frigid that night. Suddenly, I was awakened by the sound of my Heating, Ventilation plus A/C slamming itself off. Something exhausting had happened because when I got to the basement, I found a oil furnace that was smoking as though it had warm. It was close to midnight so, I decided to fire up the wood stove. Minutes later, I saw smoke pouring back through the house. I hadn’t cleaned it in a long time plus the flue was completely jammed shut. I knew it was too frigid to go the entire night so I had to call for emergency Heating, Ventilation plus A/C service. It was a steep price to pay but at least I found out my back up needed some attention.
