The modern marvel of HVAC

When I was a kid I discovered the joys of science fiction.

While digging through my grandparents basement to help set up for a yard sale, I found a dusty cardboard box brimming with cheap paperback novels.

All of these books had themes about space travel, robots, and other far-flung fantastic ideas. I was enraptured by them, and started blowing off my school work to read them. A lot has changed since those days. I am no longer a kid, I work a full time job and have my own place. I also still have that same box of books! Every day after I finish my shift for the HVAC contractor I will still often sit down and read a classic for a little while. I can’t say that my taste in reading led me to a job in the HVAC industry, but it surely didn’t hurt. The inner workings of HVAC systems are remarkable examples of modern technology. The first example of what we consider to be a modern air conditioner was made in 1902 by Willis Carrier, and that was the start of a technological boom. He literally changed the world with his invention, and allowed people to take full control over the temperature and air quality of their homes and businesses. In 1902, I bet the air conditioner seemed to be as far-out an invention as anything I read about in my sci-fi novels. The advances never stop, and every year there are exciting new developments in the HVAC industry, so it’s cool to be a part of that.
