We had no power and no air conditioning

We hadn’t heard anything from the meteorologist about there being rain, but we unquestionably had lightning the other night.

The lightning hit the tree right outside our house. The tree trunk broke in half, and it landed right on top of our house. Along with crashing through the roof, it took out the power lines that led into our home. We lost all of our power, and we had electricity arcing in the living room. We had to find a way to safely call the power company, the fire company, and our homeowner’s insurance company. We were afraid to touch any of the door knobs because they were metal and we didn’t want to get electrocuted. Without electricity, our house was getting hotter by the second and the humidity was getting worse. I wished there was some way to get to the generator so we could have air conditioning. With air conditioning, we wouldn’t need to worry about mold and mildew and we could stay cool. When I said this, my spouse pointed at the gaping hole in our ceiling. He said that no amount of air conditioning and dehumidification would help when we had that opening there. He was more upset about birds getting into the house. As we stood there looking, I finally got in touch with the electric company, who promptly had someone turn our power off. Now, all we had to do was find someplace to stay while the insurance has a contractor repair our home. My spouse said we should stay with our daughter, despite the fact that I wanted to go to a hotel since the insurance was paying. I knew we would have a nice AC at the hotel.
