Lightning brought a tree down on our house.

We hadn’t heard anything from the meteorologist about there being rain, but we definitely had lightning the other night.

The lightning hit the tree right outside our house, the tree trunk broke in half, and it landed right on top of our house.

Along with crashing through the roof, it took out the power lines that led into our home. We lost all power, and we had electricity arcing in the living room. We had to find a way to safely call the power company, the fire company, and then our homeowner’s insurance company. We were afraid to touch any of the door knobs because they were metal. We didn’t want to get electrocuted. Without electricity, our home was getting hotter by the minute and the humidity was building. I wished there was some way to get to the generator so we could have air conditioning. With air conditioning, we wouldn’t need to worry about mold and mildew. When I said this my husband pointed at the gaping hole in our ceiling. He said the no amount of air conditioning and dehumidification was going to help when we had that opening there. He was more worried about birds getting into the house. As we stood there looking, I finally got in touch with the electric company who promptly had someone cut our power. Now, all we had to do was find someplace to stay while the insurance has a contractor fix our home. My husband said we should stay with our daughter, but I wanted to go to a hotel since the insurance was paying. I knew we would have good AC at the hotel.
