I check to make sure the chiller is efficient each year, but other than that, no worries anymore
I got rid of my old chiller system due to inefficiency. It wasn’t the fault of the chiller, it was mine. Everything I read about being a good chiller owner stressed getting proper maintenance on the system. First, I never remembered when the right time was to call for chiller maintenance. Second, I never wanted to pay for something I feel I didn’t need. Third, my chiller still operated and seemed fine. I forgoed chiller maintenance for years and just let the system operate. I then started noticing not too long ago that my energy bills were so much higher. I then checked the full load efficiency rating on my chiller and compared it to when I first bought it. I realized I lost 25% efficiency as the years have gone on and didn’t notice right away. I was steadily losing efficiency by neglecting service. I thought I could get maintenance and just get the issue taken care of. Turns out the inner workings of the chiller like the tubing was all messed up. The professional recommended a new one if I wanted a better full load rating. Instead of buying and owning a chiller I might break again, I decided to with a portable chiller rental this time. A business handles the yearly maintenance on it now. I don’t need to think about it. I check to make sure the chiller is efficient each year, but other than that, no worries anymore. If there is a repair, the chiller rental business finds it immediately and takes care of it. If not, I get a different chiller installed.
