The upgrades have been a major success
10 years ago, my mom and dad opened a small vegetable and fruit stand at the end of the corner. Two or three years after the stand opened, my mom and dad bought a small lot of property from the owner. That’s when my dad built a free-standing structure on the property. My dad wasn’t a contractor by trade, but he built a structure that lasted 10 years. I took over running the business last year, when I finished college. I had a lot of ideas that were big. My dad thought I was going to put us in the poor house. I felt certain that the farm stand needed major upgrades. My dad built a great building, but it needed to be modernized. I called a couple of friends that work in the construction industry and I had several contractors bid on the job. I hired a light construction contractor and a crew of six guys to complete the transformation. They used some of the would that my dad used for the original building to create the new shop. The light construction contractor has a lot of great ideas. He added a small office in the back with heat and air conditioning. He also spoke with an HVAC contractor in town about adding a large refrigeration unit. When the entire project was completed, the farm stand was twice as big as the structure that my dad built in the same spot. The upgrades have been a major success. Most of our customers have lived in this town for a long time. They love the new changes.
