I came up in an era that when you were a guest in another’s home, you go by their rules.
That’s just the way it is and there really isn’t any arguing that particular point.
My parents were very gracious individuals and raised me to be that way as well. That being stated, if I had refused to eat something put in front of me, I would have met some harsh reality. I recall how I once came home complaining about the HVAC at my grandparents house. My dad sat me down and gave me a bit of a lecture. He told me that I needed to understand the context of situations like that. My grandparents were on a fixed income and had to do with what the had as far as the HVAC went. That really stuck with me. However, I am really having a hard time with my inlaws and how they go about heating their home. When I am there for the holidays, I just sweat and sweat as the HVAC temperature is set in the 80’s. But again, it’s their house so, I have to keep my HVAC preferences to myself. Yet, I am quietly starting to find my limits when regarding the HVAC settings. That’s because my inlaws have no problem simply adjusting my HVAC setting when they are visiting. And usually without asking. My wife won’t call them out on it. But, I’m not really prepared for all out war with my inlaws over the HVAC setting. I do know that I will be programming our HVAC so that it can’t be manually adjusted during their visits.
