Sedentary job makes keeping fit especially important

My job is the type that keeps me working on my computer for eight hour work days.

I watch a monitor and click my fingers across a keyboard.

I am fortunate that I can manage my entire job responsibilities from anywhere with internet access, but there are some drawbacks. My whole job is totally sedentary. While I try, walk around and stretch every few hours, my muscles and joints tend to feel stiff and sore. I recognize the importance of keeping physically active. I don’t want to pick up weight, give up strength or deal with needless health ailments. I hope to counteract the drawbacks of my type of job by making fitness a daily habit. First thing every morning, I devote an hour to my workout. It feels really enjoyable to warm up my muscles, stretch my arms and legs and rotate all of my joints. I spent at least 30 minutes on high impact aerobic style exercises. I combine strength training exercises with high repetition and relatively light weights. I work everything from biceps and triceps to the trapezius muscles, thighs and calves. I always include lots of varying styles of abdominal crunches, squats, lunges, burpees and mountain climbers. On the weekends, I look for fun activities that get me outside and moving around. Instead of sitting on the couch and watching a movie, I take a bike ride, go for a walk, do some gardening our kayak on the lake. I usually head to the gym and take part in group fitness classes. I’m especially careful about my diet, sleep habits and the amount of water I consume. Because I maintain a strong and healthy lifestyle, I am more productive at work.
